A Spirit Weave project
Chapel of Light
A place made of moments
An acorn catching sunlight. A storm opening. A small flame. Moments like these become a place to pause—alone or alongside others.
02 / Stay with one small thing
What the Earth Holds
An acorn rests among moss, stone, and fallen leaves. Look at its edges, then at the ground around it.
Showing both complete works.
03 / Different kinds of light
Not all light is gentle.
A drop among the reeds. A break in a heavy sky. A flame reaching into darkness. Each gives us something different to notice.
Among Reeds in Morning Mist
A drop catches the light. Beyond the reeds, the distance softens.
A Storm Opening
The clouds keep their weight around a sudden opening.
A Gentle Living Flame
Look at the bowl and tabletop. The flame appears in what receives its light.
What changes when these works become neighbors?
Find a place to look together04 / From works to a place
A place to look together.
The gallery brings us close to the paper. The garden gives us an interval. In the chapel, the windows gather around a shared space.
The person behind the place
Richard Dodson developed Chapel of Light through an exploration of how light changes what we notice. Repeated image-making and design gave the compositions two forms: expressive works on paper and designs for glass. The gallery, garden, and chapel bring them into a shared setting.
The drawings gallery
Close to the paper.
Dark walls give each sheet room. At the end of the gallery, a doorway opens onto another way of seeing the work.
The garden passage
A little distance.
The view widens. Plants and changing daylight join the colors in the windows. A work held close a moment ago can now be seen across the garden.
The shared room
Inside the circle.
Twenty-four windows gather around the room, with three circular works overhead. You might stay with one work, or let your eye travel. Someone beside you may be looking somewhere else.
Light takes form
Inside the chapelShowing Light takes form.
05 / Back into the garden
The light goes outward.
From the garden, the windows draw the eye across the dark. The work you met close at hand is now part of a larger place.
Stay a little longer.
Light Held in the World brings together all 27 compositions, their paired forms, and the spaces around them.

From a moment to a place
Chapel of Light explores how a passing condition in the natural world can become something we spend time with: an acorn receiving sunlight, reeds in morning mist, an opening in storm clouds, the reach of a flame.
Richard Dodson developed the project through iterative digital image-making and design. Each composition takes two visual forms: an expressive work on paper, with visible boundaries and drafting marks, and a design for glass. The differences between them are part of the work.
The drawings gallery, garden, and circular chapel extend the collection into a setting for people to pause together. The invitation is open across generations, traditions, and beliefs.
The collection
The exhibit brings together works on paper, windows, and the gallery, garden, and chapel around them. The detail views enlarge selected areas of the existing images.
Light Held in the World includes 24 tall compositions and three circular works. This exhibit concentrates on four of the tall works, with the three circular works available in the upward view.
